DEAD TO RIGHTS: RETRIBUTION XBOX 360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
Dead to
Rights: Retribution is a third-person shooter
set in a fictional urban metropolis overrun by
corruptions and mobs. One of the main
attractions of Dead to Rights: Retribution is
engaging in Focus Mode. It is similar to Max
Payne-style bullet-time effect that slows down
the combat and let you pick off enemies much
faster than normal. As far as the story goes,
your mission is to take down a ruthless faction
known as the Grant City Anti-Crime Unit, or GAC.
The game looks to add its own unique twist on
the FPS genre. For one, your partner comes with
two fangs and lots of fur instead of a human
intellectual. It’s a half-wolf, half-sled dog and it
goes by the name Shadow. Your canine companion
is a valuable asset, especially against enemies
who refuse to leave their guard post. You can
use Shadow to sneak up behind a heavily armed
soldier. This tactic works great because there
is no firing of weapon involved and keeps you in
low profile. You use the directional pad controls as to
what type of attack Shadow will perform.
The main character of the game is Jack Slate, a
proficient assassin whose trail of
destructiveness is outweighed only by his
“invincible” mentality. Though he moves at an
average pace, he is good with his fists as well
as guns! In close combat, he can dispatch
multiple foes either by grabbing them, hitting
them, or permanently taking them out with a gory
finisher! He has a list of brutal takedowns as
well as the ability to deliver weapon-based
finishers. If the situation gets too hot to
handle, you can easily snap behind a
destructible cover. Eventually, you’ll run out
of ammunition; but you can always toss the gun
and disarm another opponent for his weapon! Dead
to Rights: Retribution’s melee system looks more
advanced than any other third-person shooters
out there. It employs the ability to guide your
punches and kicks a full 360 degrees using the
left stick. What’s more is that the controls are
very simple. You only press three buttons, which
are light attack, heavy attack, and block. The
developer points out that health can play a big
role in how you stay on your feet. If you are
weak and try to finish a fight with a handgun,
the enemy can knock it off your hand. The
technique works both ways; so it depends on the
health. Dead to Rights: Retribution is showing
some potential to become a solid shooter for the
Xbox 360. You can get it on April 13, 2010. |
